Hello Jo! I took a class from you at Harris School in Chicago, IL, and was a friend to your foster, Carla Gallagher (and Mimi, too, though not as much. She & I just didn't hit it off). At the time, my name was Shirley Bertok. I'm short (about 5 feet tall), and chunky, blond hair, glasses. Carla took me to see you at some coffee houses, and we went with you to WMAQ on New Year's Eve, around 1975. Mr. & Mrs. Studs Terkel were there: I talked to her without realizing who she was, or I would have been too shy to bother her. At the radio station, you sang a song with words that went something like: "You've been a long time comin'; you've been a long time gone. But I will know you when I see you: your eyes will say you're home. And until then I will make it through alone." I went to a lyrics search, but they didn't have that song listed. I would REALLY appreciate it if you could give me info on it. Another song you did (that I also can't find) had words like: "Was it really love at all: or something that you've heard love called?". Again, any info you could give me on the song would be greatly appreciated.

Speaking of Carla, do you hear from her at all? An AWFUL lot happened to me, and I lost touch with her. I would love to contact her again, but I understand if you don't want to give me her info, just in case she doesn't want to hear from me. My info follows: if it is at all possible, tell her about me, that I am trying to find her just to let her know how much she meant to me, and still does. If she doesn't want to contact me, that's her decision, but it would really be great if you could see your way clear to at least letting her know that I still think of her and love her. There's a little song that says, "Make new friends, but keep the old: one is silver, and the other gold." She would DEFINITELY be "gold" for me. Thanks a lot for at least reading my message, and I hope to hear from you.
