I have most of his records, and I think Live at the Old Quarter and The Late Great Townes Van Zandt are probably the best. Also very good are Townes Vandt Zandt and Our Mother the Mountain.

He was a brilliant songmaker who is deeply missed.

Since we're on favorite songs as well, I particularly love "To Live is to Fly," "Marie," "Tower Song," "I'll Be Here in the Morning," and come to think of it, most of the rest of them. I was surprised, by the way, to hear "I'll be Here in the Morning" (sung by someone else) used as the music for a University of Virginia Health System commercial when I was living in Charlottesville last year.
