I used to do that..... great fun, we would go to the pub a lot afterwards, and I could ring a 23cwt bell - that's 23 X 100lbs..... 23 hundredweight. My local tower had a ring of 10, although I've rung on a ring of 12 before, as well as an outdoor ring - bells suspended on an outdoor cage, erected in the grounds of Salisbury Cathedral, where real bells are impractical because their weight would topple the 404ft spire.
