One of the best voices in Scotland together with a superb guitarist produce a sound rooted in the tradition of Scotland but not confined by it. They have been described as "a must for any fan of Scottish song". On hearing Mick's performance on his recent cd , U.S. magazine Sing Out stated "why is this man not a household name..?" Frank McLaughlin provides a perfect backdrop to Mick's voice, exploring the world of Scot's song with creative and expertly delivered arrangements on guitar.
"One of Scotland's most lyrical folksong exponents"-Sue Wilson Scotland on Sunday
"West is a wonderful singer with a big, rich, warm expressive voice - in approach and stature somewhat of a Scottish Christy Moore" Norman Chalmers ,The List
"McLaughlin's guitar can chime with a delicacy reminiscent of Tony McManus, or work up powerful drive around which West's voice twines…" Jim Gilchrist, The Scotsman
Mick & Frank will give us two forty-five minute sets and the rest of the evening is filled by members of the audience doing a song or tune if they wish. Entrance is £8 and everyone is welcome, especially if you'd like to sing or play. We mostly sing and play traditional music from the British Isles, but we enjoy other styles as well. We always start off with some English dance tunes for anyone with an instrument to join in.
We now have a loyalty card. Six visits earn you £5 off an evening when admission is £5 or more.
