What a shame you missed Chester Festival. The camp site is on Kelsall village's playing field, next to the children's playground, and there was a Panic Circus tent with various activities, juggling, wire walking, puppets etc. Family ceilidh one afternoon. Singing for children. Never mind, the 18month old boy will enjoy it more next year.
Whitby has family ceilidhs every day (early evening), and other events. Plus the attraction of the beach.
