It's a bit late to worry about it now if that's all that you did with your life. I doubt that anyone makes a living from informal sessions of the sort which I believe Will was speaking of.
I saw a bumper sticker in the States at one time to the effect that the best musicians have real jobs. In my experience that is often very true. There are many, many musically very accomplished people out in the real world who get by with "real" jobs from postmen, carpenters, doctors, teachers, printers etc etc etc and it is largely from people such as this that I have heard some of the best informal music sessions.
