Well the amalgam filling certainly stood the test of time; I wonder will the 'best modern material' do the same? Rather like sound recording in fact: you won't really know until you reach the future. If the tooth remains tender to bite on, it's either a too high filling (easily done - easily fixed) or an abscess developing; anyway go back for a quick check.
