Thread Name: Lyr Req: Gentleman Soldier (from the Pogues)
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Pogues song- not sure of title..but.
The easiest way to look for things in the Digital Tradition database and in the Forum is to go to the "Digitrad and Forum Search" box on the main Forum page, type in a song title or keywords, and click "Go".  In this case, fifes do loudly play will take you to a thread which tells you the name of the song, which you can then use to find further information.  If you do a search before asking for information (or before posting lyrics), we can avoid having several threads all on the same subject, and containing the same information, lurking about!  This link will take you to a thread containing the version published in the Penguin Book of English Folk Song, together with further links to other versions:  Gentleman Soldier

The link above to the Pogues' version is interesting, but requires this comment: the person who put the site together seems to think that the Pogues have changed the words of the song; this is not the case.  They simply recorded a traditional version that was different from the one he or she knew about.
