When we don't get a joke because we don't understand what's being said that is one thing, and it doesn't cause any problem when it's translated. Good fun.

But when we understand the language completely, and can't see why it's funny, that is quite another thing - and it's a lot more likely to cause upsets, because it implies a challenge to our sense of humour, and no one likes that.
