Subject: RE: Hogeyed Men, The Raven & me on a ship
It was a really fun night. I can recommend any London-based folkies getting in touch with Woody Newman, who organises the night. (He's the ship's caretaker.)

Talking of being shanghaied, the audience is kind of a captive audience, because the ship is in quite a touristy area. So we played to an audience of friends and folkies, but also to a lot of random tourists and after-work Friday-night drinkers who only came in because it was a cheap place to have a drink, away from all the packed pubs.

Because you're surrounded by wood, acoustic instruments sound good.

I didn't have time to learn any proper old songs unfortunately. But I played a couple of sea-related songs. "Let the Mermaids Flirt With Me" (Mississippi John Hurt). And also "New York Trader", from the Penguin book of English folk songs.
