"The planet will look after itself, .."

"Something needs to curb the explosive population growth which can't be sustained."

Both are true... for different reasons. *IF* we care about what happens to us, population AND any possible effect on climate (those are connected) need to be addressed.

The planet will 'sorta' look after itself.. but that is an anthropomorphic concept. The planet merely follows natural laws. It doesn't 'care' what happens. Neither do bacteria, insects, trees, aardvarks..or even apes. WE are the only life form which has any sense of the overall picture.... and eventually, WE are at the mercy of the processes. I just hate the idea of it all going down the tubes before it has to.
