Talkin' Election 2012

email from Stan:

Hello Friends -
I hope you're enjoying your summer, such as it might be. Here in Seattle, it doesn't ever start till mid-July at the earliest, so we're good with it and not envying our East Coast and Midwest friends with their blistering temps and humidity (but no rain) a-tall. I continue to stay healthy, which lately includes my kitty, who was faring poorly last month but has since bounced back most of the way. Life is good.

In 2001 I started to write an, uh, energetic response to what I thought was the patently flawed 2000 presidential (s)election and called my rant "Talkin' Election 2000," a talking blues in the tradition of Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Phil Ochs and other iconic protest singers. (If you're under 30, you have probably never heard, or heard of, the talking blues. Just think of it as 'folk rap'!) Well, one of the drawbacks of writing a topical song is that it requires periodic 'maintenance' to stay relevant. I added two Bush/war verses in 2007, and since then had to add Obama and Occupy references also. I hope I'm done for a while!

THE BIG NEWS: I felt that this 2012 election season deserved a re-polishing of my performance of it and thought a video might be in order. With the help of my friend and pro videographer Steven Bradford, we cobbled up what we hope is a compelling graphic account of our collective journey over the past 45 years from a relatively civil society to our current at-each-others-throats political stance. I hope you enjoy my little contribution to the debate at [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RJjgSYTohA&feature=share] and if you do,please share, Share, SHARE!

Thank you for your continued support. If you enjoyed "Talkin' Election 2012," please share it with your facebook and email friends. Blessings, Did you miss that YouTube link above? Here it is again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RJjgSYTohA&feature=share
