I've been saying so for 20 years! If we made ONLY $1 coins available, we could put $2 bills in the cash register and save millions. The $1 coins could go where 50 cent pieces used to go.

Major objections are from the vending machine industry and those who don't want heavy coins to carry. The don't seem to realize that no one would need to have more than 1 or 2 if they also have $2 bills.

But tradition and lethargy will keep it down....

Oh...and the $1 coins MUST be enough larger than a quarter that they won't be confused.
