Not so's anyone much noticed.

At least until Roosevelt got in and his "alphabet agencies," like the WPA and the CCC, kicked in and put people (25% unemployment) back to work. Roosevelt figured that the way to get the economy running again was to put people to work and earning wages. That would get money circulating again because, unlike the wealthy who were sitting on their riches, they would have to spend it—on things like food and rent. At the same time, they would be building bridges, highways, and other infrastructure that the country needed.

It worked.

The Right Wing has hated Roosevelt's guts ever since.

Mr. Obama, please read up on Roosevelt. . . .
