Thread Name: BS: Labor Day... What a sick joke...
Subject: BS: Labor Day... What a sick joke...
There was a time when American labor was appreciated but that day has come and gone... With Ronald Reagan using the full force of the federal government in busting the Air Traffic Controllers Union in the early 80's it has not only been open season on unions and labor but with government support...
The minimum wage is now lower (after idexing for inflation) than at any time in our history...
Boss Hog is not only living fat but he has his perfect world with people scrambling to take jobs any wage just to not be on the street... Go to any Starbucks and ask the kids there how many of them have college degrees... Lots... And making minimum wage of close to it...
1/2 of Americans are living at 125% of poverty or less...
Is labor appreciated???
Go back to the 1908 election where the three major candidates all supported labor and labor unions... My, wouldn't it be something if we had that today??? But we don't... We have a government so afraid of the robber barons that they don't even want to utter the word union for fear of reprisal...
If you go to the Washington Post on line there is hardly any mention of "labor" other than in the generic "Labor Day" as part of other stories... No mention of actual "labor"... No mentions of "unions"... No mention of the corrupt state of state is in...
Well, I'll just end this this way: I appreciate each and every man or woman's labor... I have done a lot of it in my life... It ain't easy... It gets people hurt, crippled or dead... So on this "Labor Day" I would hope that people who read this will reflect a little more on the sacrifices our parents and their parents made and people are making as I write this... And, yes, they are sacrifices... Sadly, they are sacrifices that are being forced upon them...
