When I worked there the backcountry rangers in the Great Smoky Mountain Natl. Park carry guns and shoot any wild boar they encounter in the park. It wasn't something they mentioned to the general public, but carcasses were dragged away from trails, camps, etc. They are destroying the area and breeding prolifically.
