Thread Name: Harlequin Pub In Sheffield
Subject: RE: Harlequin Pub In Sheffield
The Brewery approached her and suggested the move. The rationale, apparantly, is that the Harlequin does not do well at lunchtimes now that few people live or work close to it, while the Red House, which has had a succession of short-term tenants and managers since Anne and Glynn moved on earlier this year, now has almost no trade at all and is losing money hand over fist. Of course, it is possible that the Brewery has other, unstated motives to do with the developments taking place around the old brewery site by Lady's Bridge, but it's fairly pointless speculating. The Red House is smaller than the Harlequin, and probably a little harder to find, but it's a nice pub which has a tradition of music going back longer than the Dog and Partridge or Fagan's, though this has been interrupted at times over the years by some new tenants, who have usually then had to re-introduce it when their alternative plans didn't work out. I'd have thought that Linda can turn the place round if anyone can.
