I once sank an old cast iron bathtub into the ground, added boulders for shelter and visual interest and stocked it with goldfish. I soon found that neighborhood cats were no longer bored.

I spread chicken wire over the tub- mesh small enough to hamper outside activity and not strong enough to hold cat's weight. Worked.
