I remember Al O'Donnel from O'Donaghue's in the late 60's. Al, Pat Carrol, Andy Irvine, Christy Moore, Judith Hitchman, Hughie (the cop, why can't I remember his name? Ain't I still young?). When O'Donaghue's got crowded, we moved down the street to Toner's.
I played a few dates on the same bill with Al, at Slatterey's, in the upstairs bar and, once, in that claoset in the basement.
