I think he's an absolutely brilliant musician. And his vocal style is one I hear copied by so-called r&b groups these days.

I do think his songwriting is patchy. He has written some absolutely Wonder-ful songs and arrangements, but he has had his share of crap too (eg "WOman IN Red", "Part-Time Lover", "I Just Called ...")
