I still occasionaly sing "The magic pear tree" which I recognised when first heard as another version of a story that I had read in a slightly altered form as a science fiction short story, where the protagonist slave claims to see his master climb on his horse and gallop away over the horizon.
Another one that I do from time to time is "The High Mettled Racer".
