With the caveat however, that while the notation itself does not put up an obstacle and that such an obstacle is of the musician's own making, There are a heck of a lot of people playing music from notation who have no idea that they have put up the obstacles.

It's like the "guns don't kill people, people kill people" argument. Of course it's true. But if there's a heck of a lot of guns about and they are as easy to get hold of as a bag of rice, then a heck of a lot more people are gonna get killed.
