Ivan, I had something called Microsoft Startup (or Quick Start or something along those lines) and that did appear to preload parts of the MS Office suite.
I find programs like that more trouble than they are worth, all they seem to do is slow down startup and can cause other problems in the process.
I really do object to programs that decide they have the right to start without my permission (and those that add desktop icons,etc without asking me first, etc.) after all, it is MY PC and I choose what I want to run and when...
The worst part of it all is that Microsoft in thier infinite wisdom saw fit to provide at least 3 methods (Start Menu, system.ini and registry) so it becomes difficult to find where to stop some unwanted programs from starting up. Why just one simple method such as the Startup menu did not suffice is beyond me.
