Possibly so in an ideal world (which does not exist), but if one feels a kinship and trust with the policies of a candidate because of it, I suspect that is a major consideration to many voters in most countries.

Did this perspective come up as a negative issue when many of the USA Irish supported Kennedy and Regan? I suspect not.
