I guess a lot could be read from the voice tone of the announcer.
Makes a big difference whether it was respectful or dismissive.
If the latter, just assume the poor whippersnapper didn't have a clue.
(Nearing 70 myself, I deal with those who don't know to assess me.)
You can't be responsible for anyone else's attitude or education.
