Thread Name: Kent based folkies...
Subject: Kent based folkies...
Hi there...

I'm looking for some Kent based folk enthusiasts/performers to help me with a project based around Maidstone. Some of you may know me... 20 year old girl, 'sings' unaccompanied, usually accompanied by Wheeler Street or Sam Sweeney.

I spent a year or so living in Sheffield and completely fell in love with their caroling tradition. Whilst it's impossible to "move" the tradition, we can make on of our own, or renew an interest in an old one.

The plan was to have 4 "wassailing" sessions in December, with a final Christmas gig right at the end, with a well known band. Unfortunately this year the band is fully booked and I will be working right up until the 19th of December, so it's a bit late to organise what I had in mind.

So for this year, I was hoping to hold a one off event with some caroling, some tunes and some local musicians on an open stage (singing traditional Christmas carols). If anyone would be interested in helping me out with this event, either buy volunteering for the open stage, or just handing out some leaflets in their area, please let me know.

For anyone who is interested in helping me out with next year, again, let me know! Plans for next year are quite big, so I will need some support with some little odd jobs and just general interest.

Please note I am not interested in people who think that this shouldn't/can't be done, because I am doing it, and thus I'm only interested in those people who are also interested in the idea!

My email is SineadTess@hotmail.com

Also, if anyone has any information on the carols that were sung/originate/were collected in Kent, please do let me know!

Many thanks and a Merry Christmas! (Okay, you can slap me, it's not even December...)
