Thread Name: Lyr Req: That'll Never Happen No More (Van Ronk)
Subject: Lyr Add: THAT'LL NEVER HAPPEN NO MORE (D Van Ronk)
One of my absolute favourite songs to play, here's Van Ronk's version from the Newport Folk Festival, 1963

I met a girl in cabaret,
Pretty papa were you going my way,
I met to know what it’s all about,
She brought me home, just to kick me out,
Broke my nose and she split my chin,
Don't let me catch you round here again,
Whipping through the kitchen and out through the door,
Beat me with a chair till my head got sore,
That'll never happen nor more,
That'll never happen no more

Living in Chicago in the winter and fall,
Caused me to wear my overalls,
I got drunk and it was my fault,
Drinking tequila and leaving the salt,
I met a gal in a big mink coat,
Fancy car and a forty-foot boat,
Pulled a gun and she took my dough,
I didn't holler and I didn't get sore,
That'll never happen no more,
That'll never happen no more

I went to a party the other night,
Got into drinking I was feeling all right,
Lit up a reefer and I drank some gin,
Sat there waiting for the fun to begin,
A pretty little girl walks up to me,
Come on daddy lets make whoopee,
I woke up in an empty bed,
My pockets were empty and a pain in my head,
That'll never happen no more,
That'll never happen no more

Van Ronk always played this one in the key of G (capoed on the 5th fret)
