Guess I'm not wearing my contacts today. I just did (and, I hope, recovered from) something really stupid. I was distracted, thinking about a gazillion things (always a big mistake), and screwed up something I've done almost every day since 1973. Instead of wetting my right RGP contact lens with the appropriate solution, I used the red-tipped (to warn against using IN the eye, fer-pete's-sake!) cleaning solution. Noticed RIGHT AWAY (oh, yes, I did!) and washed it out with saline. Washed the eye out again with a solution of rue, fennel in saline (which has healed every eye irritation I've ever had) and also threw in some lubricating eye drops for good measure. I'll take care of the eye over the course of the day and it should be okay by tomorrow. But my loss of attention at a crucial moment scares the bejaysus out of me. With Tom requiring as much help as he does, I CAN'T damage my body or get sick...
I'd been trying to finish a book, sort through some boxes in the bedroom, rearrange and sort a bunch of stuff in the guest room, pull out some stuff to store in the cellar for the time being, looking for the rest of the Christmas ornaments which aren't where they're supposed to be, getting dressed, and mentally planning some lists related to my reading lists (which I've kept since 1972), and mentally composing a note to a friend who is going through some of the same things I went through earlier this year, etcet etcet.
Lesson learned: when taking meds, putting in contacts, fixing something...PAY ATTENTION! Don't let your mind wander.
And always anticipate where you might get into trouble so you can avoid it. Gawd, I've been harping on that with Tom for years, especially since I broke my arm 5 years ago because I was rushing and tripped in my kitchen with no one around. And I've been extra careful especially while working in the yard and cleaning out the cellar because if I break something, Tom is not going to be able to do ANYTHING to help me...and he'll be in serious trouble, too, because he can't get along at home on his own.
Ach! Going to go back upstairs and rinse out my eye again and keep the eye drops with me for the rest of the day.
