Thread Name: songs for new years day singing?
Subject: RE: songs for new years day singing?
Hi,

Allison: That may depend on the interpretation of the "Yule" references in the lyrics.

On New Year's Day, we'd just be past the week of fowl, usually "Eight maids a-milking". There would still be plenty of reason to sing Twelve Days of Christmas, or any other song about the period rather than the single night/day. And indeed, winter songs. E.g. the two well-known sleighing songs might fit, depending on the mood of the session.

And although Allison is to modest to mention it, on the Mudcat Seasonal CD "Until the Dark Time Ends", you'll find the song the CD title was taken from:
- The Comfort of Singing Voices, by Alouette Iselin, performed on the CD by the Animaterra Women's Chorus, artistic director Allison Aldrich.
On Youtube, you can hear and see Noreen sing this song at the UK CD-presentation, currently at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWAQ9NhEupI.

Bye
