My friend who was struck by a motorist in a parking lot last January has recovered but it took a long time - 2 weeks in the ICU, 3 1/2 months in various rehab facilities, stepping down in complexity as needed and as insurance dictated. In order to pay her hospital bills she had to sue - the driver of the car, and she had to sue insurance companies, including the auto folks since she was hit in the parking lot (she had two auto insurance policies in effect - one was supposed to have been closed a few months before the accident but family discovered the company was still pulling a policy payment from her checking account every month, so that company was on the hook though they tried to back out of the policy when they realized what was happening). We're coming up on a year on January 12, and some of this is still unfolding. She has had an attorney taking care of this stuff. Hang in there, don't let those companies off the hook.
