Funny thread, with some all-too-familiar tales.

A few years back I was floating happily on my back at a mountain lake. My dog was tied by the shore so she could play in the water. My head was brushed by some overhanging limbs and I was startled to hear the dog barking, but very far away. Fearing she had come loose and was in some peril, I pulled upright in the water, only to realize I had fallen asleep and had floated all the way across the lake. The dog was just a speck across the water, but was barking furiously, thinking, I'm sure, that if I had the audacity to drown she would be left alone without food.

and ... on horseback during a trail ride; on canvas mailsacks while bagging newspapers (having worked four days without sleep); while driving a VW to escape the job where I got no sleep - the VW and a different dog drove the last 100 miles. Yeah, I believe in guardian angels, too.
