Thread Name: Origin: Little Shoemaker (French/English/Italian)
Subject: Little Shoemaker (French/English/Italian)
Sanjay, in the Gaylord's version and Petula Clark's, it's obvious that the "lovely girl" is rejecting the shoemaker's attempt at wooing and she simply dances away with his gift, without a backwards glance.

And I'm guessing the Gaylords included the Italian lyrics in the chorus because they were an Italian-American vocal group. Most of what they recorded either had some Italian lyrics or some sort of Italian theme or both.   Same reason Freddie Fender included a Spanish verse in his recording of "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" and Julio Iglesias did a Spanish segment in his duet with Willie Nelson on "Spanish Eyes."
