I think you're forgetting all the drug-dealing dirtbags in the ghettos who carry around Tec-9 and other auto- and semi-auto weapons. Sure, there are a lot of 9-mm and other handguns, but there are PLENTY of AK-47s and other assault weapons among the blacks in the projects. The gang-bangers want to be able to do the most damage they can when they raid each other.

IMHO, the average private citizen should be allowed ONE firearm in their home for protection, if that much. We have police departments to protect our neighborhoods, after all, and in over 20 years of living on my own, I have NEVER had a fear of someone breaking in. I do not own a gun, and I don't need to. I choose to live in areas where other people and I largely share social and ideological beliefs, thus greatly reducing the threat of crime.

Most of the gun violence in the US can be attributed, IMHO, to the intrusion of ignorant belief systems into otherwise normal society.

No one in my neighborhood glorifies the drug-dealing shit who masquerade as "rap artists", so I have little to fear over whether the inevitable gang- and drug-related violent activity will surface around my children.

Simply put, if one were to profile the VAST majority of those who were/are guilty of gun violence, one would discover the music, language, ideologies and separatist/dominionist idiocies of the ignorant thug.

The day I drive down a street in my neighborhood and see people reading Tolstoy and blasting Bach from their car-audio earth-shaker systems while they brandish their assault weapons is the day I move to New Zealand or somewhere ;)

Even those in "polite" society who fall into the world of drug addiction and/or gang violence NEVER find themselves falling into a BETTER class of people; the shitty lifestyle breeds the need for the violence.

Guns belong in the hands of the MILITIA and those sworn to defend our freedoms locally. Our first line of defense at home is not a gun, it's education and vigilance against ignorance.
