Thread Name: Tune Req: The Roads to Rome
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Roads to Rome
Dick, according to Hamish Henderson's "Ballads of World War II," "The Roads to Rome" is "a pipe march composed by Pipe Major MacConnachie of the Royal Scottish Fusiliers."

Presumably it was Henderson who wrote a song to the tune:

The Caesar's were a randy crew--
Ye ken the story o'm.
They tauld this tale tae Goy and Jew
That a' roads lead tae Rome.

But for the haverin o' the runts,
An' the bletherin blarney o'm,
Ye heard ae sang frae a' oor fronts:
There's nae road leads tae Rome.

--But noo ye'll heart he pipers play
Afore St. Peter's Dome
And Scotlans tells the world today
That *oor* road led tae Rome.

Sorry I don't know the tune.
