I'm surprised and flattered that a few of you still remember! It was 1997 when Lesley and I started our shared hobby of midi sequencing.

Back then I used a SoundBlaster16 and software called Midisoft Studio to produce what I often referred to as 'facsimile music'. At the time, folks overlooked the clankety-clank sound because so few people were sequencing folk and traditional music. Relative to nothing, it was outstanding! ;-)

I was please when powerful sound cards and large sound fonts eventually started to offer reasonable sound quality, based on electronic sound bites from real instruments. But that was only a temporary improvement, as most browser and motherboard manufacturers quickly stopped catering to midi as a playback format.

In recent years web sites offering midi files and autoplay javascript are now flagged as 'malware' by most browsers. On the plus side, YouTube has replaced our facsimile music with audio and video of the real thing.

All this means that Lesley and I have retired to midi haven to enjoy listening to the rest of you!   :-)
