Been a few mentions of Ae Fond Kiss. For my money this is one of the greatest love songs ever written although it came from a period when Burns was in Edinburgh, mixing with the literati and getting far from his roots. He wrote it for Nancy McElhose who he called Clarinda in other poems.
The verse that always gets to me:

Had we never lov'd sae kindly,
Had we never lov'd sae blindly,
Never met - or never parted,
We had ne'er been broken-hearted.

How true!
