This scam has been around for a while. There are a few clues in the text: I doubt whether Brits would use terms like "cell phone" or be asking for payment in Euros when they are supposedly outside the EU. Taken as a whole, the writing style doesn't quite ring true to me, and I doubt whether whoever wrote it was a native English speaker, or at least British English.

However when you get a message like this suggesting someone you know is in trouble, it's easy to overlook these nuances. Be careful.
