We're in Midcoast Maine. We have a propane range, as well as our excellent woodstove that provides our daily heat and is designed to be cooked upon. We have extra feed and water for the chickens and have insulated their coop with hay and plastic. We always have snow shovels, roof rakes, oil lamps, kerosene, candles, fire extinguishers, LED lamps, battery lamps that light up when the power fails, working smoke alarms, charcoal for the BBQ outside, and many gallons of water for drinking, cooking, flushing, and washing. We have cooked, frozen, canned, and dried food, fuel, chainsaws, axes, weather radios, batteries, a full range of first aid supplies, sand and salt for ice, generator (used to pump water after the fire), five cords of firewood in the basement and more outside, and best of all, each another. As the storm swirls around outside we'll check in with neighbors in case they are in need of a helping hand.

The power never fails for long enough for me. I love the peace.
