As a geology student in the 1960s, I and my friends discussed the origin of "rock an' roll" in exhaustive fashion. We concluded that it could be traced back to the glacial period when massive ice sheets expanded and retreated over North America, remolding the landscape, leaving their signature marks as kettles and kanes, and glacial moraines.
