Bet you've all been wondering where Penkhull is. Well, now is the chance to find out(actually, it's part of Stoke-on-Trent)
PENKHULL FOLKWEEK MARCH 16-24, 2013
For eight days in March, Penkhull will be hosting an astonishing variety of folk performers, from near and far. Stoke-on-Trent hasn't had a folk festival for more than twenty years, and this is going to be a really good one. We start off on the weekend of St Patrick's Day(March 17). The opening concert, in the village hall on Saturday March 16, will feature a sensational group of Irish traditional musicians: the Four Alls from County Cork, led by the legendary accordionist Dave Hennessy from Crosshaven. They will also be very in much evidence in the village on St Patrick's Day itself. From then on things just keep happening, in the village hall, in the many pubs of Penkhull, and in schools. The full programme will soon be on the internet, just go to www.penkhull.org.uk or google "Penkhull Folk Week".
There are three paying events in the village hall (the Four Alls night on March 16, a concert with the hugely popular Rory McLeod on Fri 22, and a barn dance with our regular visiting caller Baz Parkes on Sat 23). The pub gigs are all free, and will feature the cream of local traditional performers, and many of the current amazing crop of Stoke singer-songwriters; others will be from further away, like Hughie Jones from the Liverpool Spinners. As well there are learning opportunities, workshops in harmony singing, morris dancing and traditional Irish tune-playing (in the village hall).

Here is a list of the performers(it will get longer, and some are still to be confirmed): Rory McLeod; Bartram, Brookes and Weatherall; Duncan Bourne; Arthur Righteous; Clair Brennan; Black Dog Molly Band; Brendan Taafe(USA); The Four Alls (County Cork, Ireland); Domesday Morris; the Rabblerousers; the Boat Band; Clair Brennan; Willows Maypole Dancers; Baz Parkes; Hughie Jones( ex Spinners); Bob Buckle (ex Leesiders); Esther Brennan&Kate Barfield; Clay Chorus; Seasonal Singers; Slippery Hill Boys; Hassell Street Guitar Orchestra; Penkhull Ukulele Band; Mark Burke; Slow Folk; Headsticks

Strictly limited number of early bird tickets on sale now at £30, which gets you into all three of the village hall ticket events. Individual tickets go on sale shortly, to order go to the website or ring Greg Stephens on 01782 871691
