I worked in brewing (including managing bottling lines for beers exported to the US) and at work and in leisure I have never seen a maximum alcohol content. The alcohol content of the can/bottle is (within certain packaging rules) as stated on the label. I'm surprised the US is different - with labelling like that it is open to abuse.
