Anchor Steam was THE only small brewery at one time..(before 1975). It almost went out of business, but was saved when Fritz Maytag (of the appliance fortune) went in and heard that his favorite beer might disappear. He bought it and supported it... then New Albion opened, and soon after more microbreweries...Anchor Steam is still going, and I had some for Xmas.
