Re the double stops, what's easier is moving from a double stop on, say, the A and E string to one on the D and A string. The arc is smaller.As far as rests go, the do exist in fiddle tunes, but aren't easy to find. Classical violinists have a habit of completely stopping the motion of the bow, or picking it up off the strings in between notes. It does NOT work well with fiddle tunes, IMO.
