I went to see Steve Goodman in concert in Philadelphia back in 1979 or so, when I was a pediatric resident. The announcer for the opening act said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome The Roaches!" and I thought, Oh, no, why is there a punk rock band opening for Steve? Needless to say, I soon learned that the "a" was superfluous and the music was magical. One of the reasons I'm trying to find a turntable that works. Trivia question: which one tried to get fixed up with Amy Irving's pickle man?
