Subject: RE: BS: Obit: Sarah Palin's Potitical Career...
So sorry to interrupt this world-shaking discussion on spelling. But if anybody is actually interested in the thread topic, it's time to start doing something other than jerking knees.

This news is by no means good. What you want if you have any sense--and sometimes it seems doubtful if leftists on Mudcat do--is a civil war on the other side. You want the GOP tearing itself apart, with maximum bitterness and wasting of their funds. Sarah was very useful to the Democrats--- as shopworn merchandise.   Somebody who captivated a fairly large piece of the electorate when she burst on the national scene, but who, despite her sizable personal following and her big talk, did not in fact have the 'cojones' to deal with a fiercely fought primary season as the presidential nominee. So she's no longer a fresh face. And that's all before this latest "revelation".

And somebody who can't see the necessity of appealing to others than aging whites.   There are those in the GOP who do see the necessity.   What you want as Democrats is another vicious GOP primary season--with the sensible GOP faction eventually losing to another exclusionary cheerleader--like Romney. The more times non-whites, especially Hispanics, the fastest-growing segment of the electorate by far, vote Democratic, the better for Democrats--it becomes habit.

This should all be obvious--but it seems it isn't.

One irony here, as I've noted before, is that there are actually a lot of conservative Hispanics--strong on religion, patriotism, and capitalism. But they are alienated by a GOP perceived as a bastion of aging rich white males who have no plans to a pathway to citizenship for (primarily Hispanic) illegal immigrants.

As Democrats, you want a Know-Nothing ( or many of them) as proposed GOP standard-bearer--preferably a face which has been around for a while. It seems--a far cry from even 2009--that Sarah is a good choice for this role.   At least she could push the eventual nominee to the Right--as Romney felt pushed.   So if she is taken out of the equation, it is in fact not good news for Democrats.

Leftists need to start thinking--at some point.    Allow me to suggest that now might possibly be a good time.
