*IMO, this ballad, along with the character of Regin (dwarven prince in exile working as a blacksmith and seeking revenge) just might have inspired Tolkien in his creation of Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit. That's my pet theory, anyhow. It's certainly plausible, given how much Tolkien loved this particular legend.
