Steve ~~ Godwin's Law, to my understanding anyhow, always contained implication of the qualification "even where not germane to the topic" [which, btw, I will admit your most recent ref to Hitler was, so my invocation of it there was probably misplaced & a bit facetious. Apologies]. In that sense, I don't think it mistaken or superseded, and I think he should himself have made this qualification rather than admit it flawed and appear to disown or withdraw it. Still valid for me ~ with that overtone assumed.
