Tommy Handley, the most popular [probably] comedian of the Second World War years, mentioned in his autobiography having been thrown out by the ear from a school-children's concert for having sung the "You're losing 'em" variant. As I recall it after these many years, his version went

"One day I bought a new dress suit to go to a fancy ball,
The waistcoat it was much too tight, the coat it was too small.
And as for the pants, they would not fit
So I tied them up with string
And as I waltzed around the floor I could hear all the people sing --

Yer losin' 'em, yer losin' 'em'
Hold up your trousers tight.
Whose are they? Whose are they?
Oh it was a terrible sight!"

He further mentioned that, when he later in life met the teacher who had ejected him, she confessed that she had only done so because, if he had gone on for a moment longer, she would have lost face among her colleagues and the pupils by collapsing into helpless mirth.
