The name "Stac(e)y Holm(e)s comes up in a number of blues songs. Patton's Revenue Blues mentions him "with his shining star". Bessie Smith says "Down in Black Mountain Holmes can't keep a man in jail". There was even an R&B parody on Casey Jones called "Stacey Holmes".

I suspect he is or is based upon a real person. Anyone know?
