Thread Name: What does your 'day job' mean to you...
Subject: RE: What does your 'day job' mean to you...
40 hours at this job would be a drop of nearly 20 hours from my current schedule.

Support a life? I barely see my wife and children each week. The majority of my life is spent at work.

Walk away from? Let's just say that some things I see each day burn into your mind.

Right now, my work schedule is 54 hours per week. My commute is two hours per day. That's 64 hours each week. Then there's the hour each morning getting ready to leave and the "get home/change/decompress/answer everything I can't do at work" hour each evening. 74 hours. Those hours are non-negotiable; that's why in order to even see my children out of pajamas on a weekday, I'm already cutting out a day starting next month.

I have two hours on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between getting home and sleeping. Tuesdays and Thursdays, I have one hour at most. Saturday, if we're all up early and stay up late, we might have 14 hours together as a family. Sunday has volunteer work involved, so we have maybe 6 hours of totally free time. That's 28 hours.

128 hours a week of free time is an illusion. I actually sleep during many of those hours because it's necessary.

Now, remind me why taking a pay cut to do what I love and be closer to home and have my children by my side and have way less stress is a bad idea. I don't see it.
